The unprecedented flood of the Leyre, a river that flows into the Arcachon basin last May, has done some damage. Many obstacles in the waters require temporary restrictions on navigation.
On 13 May, after the torrential rains of 10 and 11 May 2020, the Leyre experienced an unprecedented flood, even stronger than the centennial flood imagined in the forecasts.
And this flood shook the river. It damaged the banks and some works. It has also created numerous ice jams (a natural accumulation of water-borne material) that can be hazardous to navigation.
The prefecture has decided to temporarily restrict navigation on the Leyre until 17 June 2020 including navigation and recreational nautical activities.
